tangled monday...

the vines outside my door seem to mimic the tangle of my monday morning brain...

...fortunately the hands don't seem to need the brain in order to coax this grey alpaca...

 into something useful...

...and beautiful...

with luck, the grey sweater should be done by the end of the week...and if i can untangle my thoughts just a bit, perhaps a new pattern will follow...

scraps...

i save them all...

and they do accumulate quickly...

so every now and then...

i make a scrappy little hat...it's one of my favorite ways to use those bits and bobs...

why don't you make one, too?  click here for the "recipe"...or go to ravelry for a free download...

waste not yarn...

the growing grey...

grey grows the sweater, o!

sleeves in garter...

soon to be joined to the body...

and below, a lovely rendition,
found on you tube,
of robert burns'
green grow the rashes, o

grey grows the sweater...o!

the sweetest hours that e’er I spend,
are spent amang my fibers, o

(sorry mr. burns...)

anyway...

400 yards of yarn knitted...
i'm now ready to begin the sleeves...

garter stitch for the forearm, i think...
then something unexpectedly "feminine"...

grey grows the sweater, o!

digression...

.....

this tangled knitter often wanders from the path on which she started...

a few days ago, i began the process of knitting a purple sweater for my son...

but several swatches
and dozens of sketches later,
a big purple ? still remains...

so...

i started a sweater for myself in the lovely grey alpaca i found several months ago in a charity shop...

in the round, on 150 stitches, it is the perfect mindless knitting project for basketball season (2 games = 8 inches)...

frosty...

after two weeks of unusual warmth...

cold returns to our little coastal village...

the grasses that have grown so green and lush in february's sun are now lightly frosted...

debbie's hats...

my friend debbie recently shared these photos of the alpaca baby hats she knit...

 in colors 92, 13 and 924

they are modeled below by her childhood friends...

the pattern, if you're interested, is here...

it is always fun to see other knitters' versions of my designs...

thanks, debbie!

dreams in color...

inspiration...

vogue knitting, winter special 1988...

everything about this cover photo appeals to me right now...

the boldness of those juicy solid colors...
the play of the very clean, simple textures of
woven and knitted wool and buttery kid leather...
the fresh face of the model...

this is the eighties fashion that i remember so well
and these colors, after a season of grey grey and grey, seduce me...

i am dreaming of

luscious yellow cashmere

white linen

orange wool

and pink silk

your dreams are your paints,
the world is your canvas
